Navotas City Fire Incident Leaves 7,000 People Homeless

Around 6:55pm last August 26, a fire incident took place in Navotas City, directly affecting 1,491 families from Navotas West and Sipac-Almacen areas. Reportedly, the cause of the fretful episode was gasoline fumes, from a nearby fisherman who was then transferring the supposed flammable liquid to another container, which accidentally got into flames—burning down a total of Php 10 million pesos worth of properties, and leaving 7,157 people homeless. Immediately, Philippine Red Cross (PRC) dispatched its Navotas Sub-chapter, and Caloocan and Malabon Chapters to respond to the said occurrence. Apart from putting out the blazing fire, the PRC teams also rendered medical assistance to the victims who were hurt. Based on their recent report (as of 8 p.m., August 29, 2010), 11 were injured from the said incident; and unfortunately, 2 died. Currently, there are three (3) evacuation centers within the area, namely: Bagumbayan Elementary School, Navotas Sports Complex and Navotas National High School.
